Chai-Spiced Hot Chocolate

Happy January everyone!

It’s a cold, icy day here and I was really craving something warm and sweet, but a little bit different than the traditional drink…sure, hot chocolate is a snow-day classic, but there are plenty of ways to spice it up! I messed around with a few ingredients and came up with this amazing DIY chai-spiced hot chocolate. Served with (lots of) marshmallows and maybe a piece of toast or biscuit, it’s the perfect afternoon pick-me-up!

Chai-Spiced Hot Chocolate

This chai-spiced hot chocolate is perfect for a cold day when you’re craving something warm and sweet, yet a little bit more unique than a traditional hot chocolate. The substitution of almond milk and unsweetened cocoa powder makes the recipe a healthy twist on a classic drink.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sweetened almond milk
  • 1 package chai spice tea
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (or one hot chocolate packet)
  • 1/8 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. In a mug, microwave the milk for 3 minutes or until hot.
  2. Steep the tea bag in the milk for about 2 minutes.
  3. Stir in the cocoa powder and vanilla until completely mixed.
  4. Top with marshmallows, chocolate curls or cinnamon.

What are your favorite variations on classic winter drinks?
